Irina Popova Sopran

Irina Popova soprano

Irina Popova, born in Bulgaria started learning piano and flute as a child.
In 1990 she finished her flute studies at the Prof. Vesselin Stoianov Musik School, and was then accepted into the Vocal Faculty Musik Academie in Sofia in Prof. Irena Brambarova’s class. During her studies, she participated in several Productions with important Bulgarian stage directors.
Her first big role was Mrs. Gross In Britten’s opera “The Turn of the Screw”. In the same time she debuted as Safi In Stauss’ operetta “Zigeunerbaron” in The Operetta Sofia.
In 1995, she participated In the Int. Vocal Competition Belvedere in Vienna, and won the Int. Media Prize.
From 1996 – 2005 she was a member of the ensemble in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Since 2006 she has been a member of the ensemble in the City Theater of Aachen, Germany. During this time, she also appeared as a guest soloist in various other theaters:
In Germany – the theaters in Bremen, Keiserslautern, Schwerin, Freiburg, Mancheim, Bilefeld, Osnabreuck;
In Austria – the Volksopera in Vienna and Klagenfurt.
She has worked with various conductors such as Olaf Henzold, Tabakov, Jonatan Nott, Michael Geutler, Cristian Arming, Markus Bosch, Ascher Fisch.
